Over the past 12 years, YPI has been a leader in the development of place-based workforce development strategies in Los Angeles that braid resources from local, state, federal, and private funds to fight poverty and improve outcomes in high-need communities.
Our Workforce Development programs provide our participants with work readiness and employment services in preparation for entering the workforce; apprenticeship programs; and vocational training opportunities leading to available employment in high demand industries. Such outcomes are achieved through identifying and examining key competencies and skill levels of all our participants and connecting them with core resources like soft skills training, job search assistance and training, financial literacy, career counseling, and job placement.
In 2016 alone, 1,270 adults received wraparound workforce training, adding to the $602,846 overall increase in collective family income through our FamilySource Center programs.
YPI also focuses workforce development efforts on Opportunity Youth and disconnected youth. Services are provided at one of two City of Los Angeles YouthSource Centers and include: World of Work- work-readiness training, LA Chamber of Commerce Work Readiness Certificate, resume building, mock interviews, links to job leads, hiring events, and assistance with placement into employment. Enrolled youth receive supportive services to better prepare them for a job interview, job placement, and job retention. In addition, YPI provides construction training and certification and partners with other agencies to provide vocational training opportunities in growing sectors like the medical field and the technology industry.
