Youth Policy Institute Names Executive Chairman Daniel Grunfeld as Interim CEO

Youth Policy Institute, Inc., one of Los Angeles’ largest independent education and social services organizations, today named its Executive Chairman Daniel Grunfeld as Interim CEO, effective immediately.

“We are committed to YPI’s programs and to the benefits they create. This is a fresh start for YPI,” Grunfeld says.

“My family always instilled in me a desire to serve and give back,” Grunfeld adds. “I look forward to continuing YPI’s vision to transform Los Angeles neighborhoods into centers of opportunity and promise.”

Grunfeld replaces Dixon Slingerland, who was terminated.

“Dan Grunfeld is the right leader with the right vision to lead YPI,” said YPI Lead Director Ari Lanin.

YPI’s Board also postponed its annual fundraising gala, which had been planned for October, until next year while the organization, under new leadership, refines its vision for the future.

Grunfeld brings an extensive background. He became Executive Chairman of YPI’s Board on July 24, 2019. Previously, he served as President and CEO of Public Counsel, the nation’s largest pro bono law firm, from 1997 to 2007. Subsequently, he was part of Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s four-person Executive Team, Co-Managing Partner of the California offices of the law firm Kaye Scholer, and Leader of the West Coast Litigation Department of the law firm Morgan Lewis & Bockius. In 2017, he was named Executive Vice Dean of the Pardee RAND Graduate School.

For more than 30 years, YPI has served to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty by ensuring access to high-quality education, workforce training and opportunities, and essential services for youth and families.

We wish to thank our volunteers, organizational partners, and funders. Their support over the years has made it possible for YPI to serve more than 112,000 youth and adults annually at 138 program sites in Los Angeles.
